 postnatal urinary retention is common after delivery that you are unable to empty your

 bladder and may take time from 4 -6 weeks especially in repeated births due to muscle weakness or if you had an instrumental delivery or tears in perineum or prolonged delivery and use epidural analegesia or pain due to infection or if you are constipated 
 If you have swelling around your vagina you can walk to relieve it and eat foods contain fibers like fruits and vegetables to reduse the constipation and you can do exercise

 to strengthen the pelvic muscle

In the event of an inability to urinate, a catheter can be placed to prevent any  damage to the kidneys. In the event of failure of exercise, a referral is made to a urologist to begin treatments and imaging with dye.
