Hello, I've been suffering from symptoms of depression, social anxiety disorder and body dysmorphic disorder for a while now (More than a year or so). What I want to know is whether I require treatment or not. I've been going back and worth with ideas, decisions and plans about the future, amidst constantly criticing myself (my body, my face, etc) and having suicidal thoughts almost everyday now. I notice that I have these thoughts when I'm dissatiafied with my appearance (which fluctuates even). Also, the most important thing is I am a student in my final year of high school(12th) and I need to follow my plans to study. The thing is, I make plans incredibly, only in vain. I've been to counsellors but of no help and not recieved any treatment or diagnosis. Being a psychology student too, I need to ask myself again whether I need treatment or not, I don't want to put my future at stake. Also, I believe I have a sort of tunnel vision. To better assess my problems (not to go in detail), my trigger is most likely to be 'rejection'. On the outside, most people think I'm fine even though I don't socialise as much and mostly sit alone in class at the back for the most of the year. I decided a few months ago that I wouldn't seek help and find a way to deal with it in my own. I've talked about it with my mom, she is supportive, but hate to break it to you, our family is problematic and both my parents have their own problems and if I bring in my own, it's like asking the blind to help being blind myself ( been there, done that, didn't work out, was disastrous). I want to get into medicine and having brought my grades down, failed my midterms and become like this is really frustrating and stressful. I'm a very lonely person and don't go out often with people. And, I'm beginning to contemplate about the word that depression won't go away just because you want it too.
