Causes and treatment of persistent fever:

Actually there are ,multiple reasons for persistent fever, al needs to be seen by the physician in order to make a diagnosis, having loose motion would suggests the diagnosis of getting acute gastroenteritis which is a common finding in children, but would not exclude other diagnoses such as infection anywhere in the body such ad tonsillitis, pneumonia , hepatitis or even meningitis, sometimes patients has to be admitted to hospital with diagnosis of fever of unknown origin till the diagnosis can be found.

What can be said here, visiting hospital and making the physical exam and history taking as well as necessary lab investigation is important in reaching a diagnosis and giving appropriate treatment.

Diagnosis:

Done by doctor through history and physical exam and Lab investigation such as CBC for detection infections, sometimes chemistry is requested like kidney and liver function, one of the investigation maybe required doing the urine test and stool analysis for detection UTI or parasite infection in the GIT. Sometimes LP would be done to detect meningitis or doing blood culture, imaging sometimes would be necessary such as CXR for the chest.

Signs and symptoms:

• Fever
• Headache
• Vomiting
• Rash
• Diarrhea
• Sore throat
• Photophobia
• Convulsion
• Others

Advice :

Persistent fever needs to be addressed by the previous investigation to get the appropriate diagnosis, so you should visit a pediatrician for making the physical exam and history in addition to the Labs for getting the right diagnosis.
