treatment:


  • Vulvodynia is chronic pain in the vulva(around the opening of the vagina) and its defined as pain that lasts 3 months at least for which there is no clear identifiable cause, to reduce the pain  some tips might be useful such as putting cold compresses on the external genitalia, avoid nylon underwear or tight clothing and instead you should put on white cotton underwear, soak yourself in luke water 2-3 times a day and avoid hot tubs, use cotton pads instead of tampons, in the night trying to sleep without underwear,during sex you should use lubricants , and wash the area gently with plain water without soap,in  addition to these remedies some medical options might be used such as steroids or antidepressants to reduce the pain, relaxing of pelvic muscles, topical lidocaine ointment ,if the pain is constant and not relieved it may be beneficial to do nerve block,and as last resort, the surgical option to remove the affected skin and tissue might be useful

How is vulvodynia diagnosed?


  • based on medical and surgical history and what symptoms are you having,the nature of the pain and what provokes it, and what associated symptoms do you suffer from, then a clinical examination of the genitalia including touching the skin around the vulva with a cotton swab to evaluate the pain , pelvic exam to identify any organic cause of the pain , swab test for the infections and the doctor might take a biopsy

  • the pain around the vulva can be described as burning, throbbing, stinging, soreness, and rawness

  • the pain might be localized or generalized
  • the pain might be constant or occasional
