Management of irregular menses

irregular menses are fairly common among women of different age groups . it could be totally benign or it could point toward a serious medical condition that should be addressed and managed carefully . Generally you should take enough rest , drink good amount of water and liquids , have a balanced diet especially iron -rich food , take ferrous gluconate 325 mg  twice daily if your hemoglobin level is lower than 12 ,if you are married or there is ahistory of recent sexual activity you should take a pregnancy test . if you are in the first 3 years of puberty , this can be completely normal as the cycles in this age can be ( anovulatory ) due to immature levels of pituitary hormones , aand it can be long , heavy and irregular .However , after 3 years they should become regular , lighter and show change in the associated symptoms .So if no cause was found and the problem persists , you may need to see a gynecologist

Diagnosis

this requires full history and physical examination , full blood count to assess your hemoglobin level , thyroid function tests , serum prolactin level , urine pregnancy test and a pelvic sonography to assess the endometrium and the ovaries

• physiologic phenomenon
• thyroid dysfunction
• hyperprolactinemia
• pregnancy complication
