Symptomes and management of Colorectal cancer
Colorectal cancer is among the commonest cancers that affect aging population, it follows multiple theories and can arise from polyps and genetic transformation of herdiatery genes that spread among family members, its associated with symptomes of constipation, abdominal pain, blood per rectum and mucus discharge with significant weight loss. Its mainly treated with surgical excision of the involved bowel segment and re- anastamosis of bowel according to the excised segement of large bowel, at time of surgery the dissection will follow the blood supply of the involved segment to remove the possibly involved lymph nodes with cancerous cells. The surgery could be done by open or laparascopic techniques with favour of laparascopic resection due to faster recovery and less complications, the excised specimen will be analysed to look for the spread of tumor cells locally and to lymph nodes to help in tumor staging and need for chemotherapy. Consult a colorectal surgeon for management plane
Investigations
After proper physical exam the stool should be examined for blood, CBC to detect anemia, Colonoscopy to detect tumor location and Abdominal and pelvis CT scan with oral and IV contrast to look for metastasis
Causes
Our advice
You are adviced to have a well balanced diet , avoid smoking and have regular exercise
