Red eye

A red eye can be alarming, but is often just a sign of a minor eye condition. If it's painful, there may be a more serious problem. See your GP for advice if your red eye doesn't begin to improve after a few days.

how to diagnose :

by detailed history and physical examintaion , slit lamp examintaion for examining all layers of eye 

causes of red eye :

• Eye allergies
• subconjuctival bleeding
• conjunctivitis)
• Contact lens wear
• Digital eye strain
• Eye infections
• glucoma
• Eye trauma or injury

treatment of red eye :

Treatment will depend on what is causing the condition. Sometimes no treatment is needed, because it may get better on its own.
Because red eye have so many causes (including some that are serious and require immediate attention), you should see an eye doctor right away if you have red, bloodshot eyes especially if the redness comes on suddenly and is associated with discomfort or blurred vision.
You may be given antibiotic eye drops or ointment to use for a few days to reduce the risk of infection while it heals.
