tongue white spot pain and throat pain

Management of throat pain and white spots on the tongue :

Treatment starts by finding the underlying cause , which requires history and physical examination . Generally , we recommend taking enough rest , drink good amount of water and liquids at least 2.5 L daily , increase intake of warm liquids and honey , if feverish use cold compressors and paracetamol 500 mg tablets every 8 hours , avoid spicy food , to relieve sore throat you may also use strepsils capsules , for the tongue spots we recommend you to quit smoking if present , and use the Gentian violet  2.5 % gel to relieve any pain and help healing .

Diagnosis :

This requires history and physical examination , full blood count to assess the white cell count  , CRP level to exclude bacterial infection and we may need a throat swab for cultures .

Possible causes :

• Herpes simplex infection
• strep throat
• EBV  infection
• smoking - related
