Management of psoriasis :

Psoriasis is a skin condition that is not completely understood . But it is characterized by formation of  itchy red -silver scaly plaques on different regions of the skin , it commonly involves the elbows , knees and scalp . Diagnosis is usually made by taking good history and physical examination of the skin lesions . It can be also associated with nail changes and joint inflammation . Treatment plan usually starts by keeping the skin moist as possible and avoid dryness , by using unscented moisturizing creams and ointments e.g vaseline cream and petroleum jelly . topical steroids like hydrocortisone %1 twice daily, are also very effective in reducing the symptoms but should be used carefully to minimize the complications . topical vitamin D analogues like calcitriol in addition to the tar preparations are also  a commonly used medication that are usually used in conjugation with steroids . For severe resistant cases , doctors may use immunosuppressants like tacrolimus to releive the symptoms .
