Treatment of yellow mucus in stool
It is common complaint. Mostly, it is not related to rectal cancer thus do not worry. Eat more healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. Increase your daily intake of water and hot drinks. You can take antibiotic Metronidazole 500 mg twice daily for one week to relieve your symptoms.
Investigations to do
You can do CBC to exclude anemia or increased WBCs level. Also stool analysis to determine causes like indigested foods or infections. Abdominal US may be needed.
Causes of yellow mucus in stool
There are many causes like
- Food types
- Irritable bowel disease
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Drugs side effects
- Amebiasis
- Genetics
