What treatments are used for trichotillomania?
Counseling or therapy in a group or one-on-one. It usually aims to deal with underlying psychological problems. Possible treatments include:
Behavior modification therapy, family therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Medicines used to treat trichotillomania include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which raise serotonin levels in the brain: such as fluoxetine (Prozac), most commonly, and fluvoxamine and paroxetine.
For hair loss it is recommended to take multi hair capsules daily and use anti hair loss shampoo
What are the reasons that lead to trichotillomania?
Trichotillomania is rare but more common in females than in males. People with trichotillomania often experience another psychiatric disorder, such as depression, bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, substance use disorders, and other impulse control disorders. There is evidence linking trichotillomania with neurotransmitter pathways in the brain associated with behavioral addiction, including those associated with serotonin, dopamine, and opioid systems. Some clinicians consider Trichotillomania as part of the obsessive-compulsive spectrum.
What is the Trichotillomania ?
You cannot prevent yourself from pulling hair. Symptoms include feelings of tension before pulling hair and feelings of pleasure or gratification when the pulling is committed. Hair pulling is not done as an expression of anger, revenge, or in response to delusion or hallucinations and is not attributable to a behavior disorder, manic episode, or personality disorder.
The mean age of trichotillomania is variable. It can begin in childhood, adolescence or adulthood, and in rare cases, late in adulthood.
What is the advice in your case?
I recommend that you visit a psychiatrist to conduct a mental psychological examination, find out the patient's psychological state, and start treatment
