What are the normal values of blood lipids ?
Total cholesterol:
Must not exceed 200
HDL is a useful fat :
Preferably more than 40 mg / dL or more than 1.0 mmol / L for men,
More than 50 mg / dL or more than 1.3 mmol / L for women
LDL, a harmful fat :
Less than 100 mg / dL
Triglycerides
Less than 150 mg / dL, or less than 1.70 mmol / L
What is the treatment of low HDL and high LDL level ?
the treatment focuses mainly on lifestyle modification and reduction of fatty food along with daily exercise
Omega 3 fatty acids
but in case of persistently high levels you should start taking simvastatin 20mg once daily
What should you do prior to Simvastatin treatment ?
you should do liver function test (AST,ALT) and monitor them every year , and if their values increased more than 3 times the baseline values you should stop simvastatin
