Hi Doctor. My mom received Vitamin B12 Injection...
Hi Doctor. My mom received Vitamin B12 Injection IM in her left gluteus on last Saturday. After that sever pain and calf muscle and foot swelling since 5 days now. Yesterday went to nearby doctor and prescribed T.Sporidex CV 375mg - tds, T. Combiflam- tds, metronidazole 400mg - tds for 3 days. But still having pain and swelling. She is known case of DM & HTN with regular medications. Please give me your consultation.

treatment :
- it's important to exclude Deep Vien Thrombosis (DVT) in cases of swelling and pain of the calf that wasn't preceded by trauma or falling down, thus the first thing to do is Ultrasound or Duplex of the leg to assess the blood flow through the veins, after exclusion of DVT, we check for the signs of cellulitis (swelling, redness, pain, shining of the skin and hotness ) and run some tests such as ESR, CRP, and CBC which elevate in the cases of cellulitis, another possibility is that an injury to Sciatic nerve which runs from the lower back to the foot and its commonly injured during intramuscular injections and we recommend having EEG for the sciatic nerve to assess its condition, currently no harm from continuing the drugs you are taking(antibiotics and analgesia ) but you can add Alphintern 3 capsules a day
diagnosis:
- based on clinical examination of the calf, and running some tests including Duplex or Ultrasound of the calf to exclude DVT, CBC, ESR, and CRP to exclude Cellulitis, and EEG to exclude any injury to the nerve
possible causes:
- Deep vein thrombosis
- sciatic nerve injury
- cellulitis
advice:
- continue the current treatment and consult the doctor for running some tests
