Causes of gases post appendectomy:

Usually it results from pain and immobilization, so this should be solved with adequate pain medication such as trufen 600 trice daily or tramadol, and patient should be encouraged to walk. If the inflammation was severe during surgery this ,bowel motion might take longer time to return , this usually encouraged with previous recommendations as well as focusing on fibers in fruit and vegetables to help bowel to return to previous function.

If the patient suffers from fever or wound discharge and increasing abdominal pain he should visit the hospital for evaluation.

Examination:

Usually done by the general surgeon, patient history would be studied as well as examination with a review to surgical findings in the operation note, investigation such as CBC to identify any inflammation and radiological study such as Xrays or US.

Signs and symptoms:

• Abdominal pain
• Fever
• Rigors
• Constipation
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Others
