what is azoospermia :
- it's a condition in which there is no sperm in the semen, thus it leads to male infertility, and there are 2 main types of azoospermia, obstructive ( means there is obstruction and blockage in the reproductive tract so the produced sperms are getting blocked from exit through semen ) and non-obstructive (means that the defect is in the production itself,so you are not producing sperms ), treatment of azoospermia depends on the cause that led to it, and you should know that many causes of azoospermia can be reversed especially if they were obstructive and hormonal disorders, if there is a blockage it could be removed surgically, and if the cause was a varicocele then these veins could be easily tied off in a surgical procedure, in case that the levels of the hormone are low then the doctor might give you hormonal therapy to replace the missing hormones, and in cases of infections Antibiotics or antiviral drugs could solve the problem
diagnosis:
- based on medical history and the symptoms you are having, the drugs you have been using, any chronic diseases you are suffering from, recent exposure to heat such as frequent saunas and steam baths, any history of pelvic surgery or sexually transmitted disease, exposure to radiation or chemotherapy, any abuse of alcohol or marijuana, clinical examination of tests and penis to check any tenderness or swelling, absence or presence of varicocele, per rectal exam to exclude enlargement of seminal vesicles, then running some tests such as semen analysis in two occasions, ultrasound, and CT of reproductive tract organs to exclude tumors, enlargement, strictures or inadequate blood supply and measuring sexual hormones
is there a possibility that azoospermia could be temporary :
- yes, if it was obstructive type once the blockage and obstruction is resolved then the sperm can pass with the semen, and the same thing applied for low hormone level which could be treated by hormonal therapy
what are the causes of obstructive azoospermia
- infections
- cysts
- trauma
- any inflammatory process
- previous surgeries
- tumors
advice:
- azoospermia could be a temporary disorder in many cases so we advised you to consult a urologist to assess the case and find out what is the cause of Azoospermia and whether it can be reversed or not
