What is the treatment of epilepsy?
The treatment of epilepsy aims primarily to protect the patient from recurring seizures. There are several medications can be used in the treatment which are known as anticonvulsants. It should be noted that the treatment depends on the patient's situation. Among the used medications are carbamazepine, lamotrigine and valproic acid, as prescribed by a specialist. In severe attacks (status epilepticus), intravenous medications such as diazepam will be used.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis of epilepsy depends mainly on medical history and physical exam. by doctor. However, some test could be run such as EEG which is enough to diagnose epilepsy. Complete blood test to exclude any infections as a secondary causes of seizure. Blood chemistry including blood sugar, sodium and calcium. Furthermore, MRI can be done to exclude any brain tumors.
What are the causes of seizure?
1. Genetic factors
2. Imbalances in blood chemistry such as sodium
3. Brain tumor
4. Lack of oxygen to the brain
5. Other reasons

Follow-up with neurologist.
