Treatment of syphilis ?
First of all dear customer it should be noted that syphilis is caused by T.pallidum microorganism which is treated by antibitotic. However, the way and duration of treatment depends on the stage of the disease. In primary and secondary syphilis, it will be treated by Penicillin IM injection once. In tertiary syphilis, it can be treated by Penicillin IV injection 4 times a day for 10-14 days. Furthermore, for latent syphilis, the treatment will depend on weather it's early latent which will be treated as the primary and seconday stages or it's late latent which will be treated by Penicillin IM injection once a week for 3 weeks.
Diagnosis of syphilis ?
History and physical exam in the genitourinary clinic. CBC as a routine investigation. Dark field microscopy for 1ry stage, PRP or VDRL for 2ry stage and lumper puncture (CSF-PRP) for the third stage.
Clinical picture of syphilis ?
The clinical manifestations depend on the stage:
1. Primary stage:
- Chancre which is a painless single ulcer in the genital are
- Enlargment of the adjacent lymph nodes
2. Secondary stage:
- Fever
- Skin rash
3. Tertiary syphilis: The disease will reach to vital organs such as brain and spinal cord
