What is creatinine?
- Creatinine is part of the organic waste products that result from muscle metabolism. It is transported by the blood to the kidneys in order to filter it and excrete it in the urine.
creatinine normal levels:
- The normal percentage varies from person to person according to muscle mass, sex, age and diet
- The normal range of creatinine ranges between 0.8-1.2 mg/dL and is more in men because of their greater muscle mass than women
- Serious creatinine levels in adults are 5 mg/dL or more, and these cases need dialysis
What does high creatinine mean:
- Chronically high creatinine level means that the kidneys are not working properly
- Temporarily high creatinine level in a small percentage may indicate dehydration in the body, eating an amount of meat and protein, or low pressure
Causes of high creatinine:
- dehydration
- nephritis
- Kidney stones
- heart failure
- Arteriosclerosis
- diabetes complications
- Taking medicines that have side effects on the kidneys
- autoimmune diseases
How is the diagnosis made in cases of high kidney function:
- bu running some tests to detect the cause that led to this rise such as checking potassium level, blood acidity, ultrasound of the kidneys and urinary tract to rule out any stones or blockages in the urine flow, checking the pressure more than once and on more than one occasion, checking the level of sugar in the blood , Echo of the heart to assess the heart muscle, complete blood test and urine test to detect any infections, and other tests
Our advice:
- Currently, it is recommended to follow some tips such as drinking enough water during the day about 3 liters, while avoiding eating meat, protein supplements salts and foods rich in potassium and phosphate and not taking any medications as many drugs negatively affect the kidneys, avoid dyes and colored foods, and Avoid coffee and soft drinks
