what is carcinoid tumor
Carcinoid tumor is one of rare GIT tumors that arise from neuroendocrine cells in the gut that are resposible for hormonal and neurotransmitter secreation, mostly found in the cecum and treated by resection. in case of liver metastasis the treatemt should be conducted using octeriotide and embolization of the tumor. the dietery modification following surgery to ban fat is of no evidence and should be reviewd with your treating doctor
diagnostic tests
The diagnosis begins with history and physical exam, followed by colonoscopy and ct scan of abdomen and pelvis to assess for metastasis in addition to 5 HIAA urine level
Complications of carcinoid surgery
Local or systemic infection
Bowel leak
hemorrhage
surgical site pain
