How is hyperhidrosis diagnosed?
When hyperhidrosis is suspected, you should undergo a comprehensive medical examination. Several tests can be done, including: Starch-iodine test: An iodine solution is applied to the sweaty area and starch is sprayed onto the iodine solution. The combination of starch and iodine will turn a dark blue color where excessive sweat is produced. Paper test: Special paper is placed on the affected area to absorb sweat, then weighed to determine how much sweating occurs. Lab tests, such as thyroid function tests, blood glucose and uric acid levels, and urine samples are done to rule out more serious medical conditions that may be associated with excessive sweating.
