Treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome :
The treatment includes hormonal therapy like progesterone therapy and combined oral contraceptive pills in addition to the importance of weight reduction .
Diagnosis of Polycystic ovarian syndrome :
The diagnosis is made by taking full history, family history and clinical examination of the patient and doing investigations including blood investigations like CBC, ovarian functions, estrogen and progesterone and testosterone hormones levels, cholesterol and triglyceride levels and doing pelvic and abdominal ultrasound .
Symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome :
- menstrual irregularity
- irregular periods
- difficultly to get pregnant
- weight gain
- acne and oily skin
- hirsutism
- excessive hair growth
- hair loss from the head
- irregular ovulation or failure of ovulation
