Treatment of heartburn :

The treatment is being decided according to the cause of your symptoms after doing investigations and clinical examination and determining the cause and then the diagnosis and treatment are decided by the doctor .
The treatment also includes pain killers containing Paracetamol, drugs for abdominal pain and discomfort containing Temonium methyle sulfate, antibiotics in case of bacterial infection, drugs for nausea and vomiting containing Ondansetron and antacids like Famotidine, Ranitidine and proton pump inhibitors containing Omeprazole . 

Diagnosis of heartburn :

The diagnosis is made by taking full history and clinical examination of the patient and doing investigations including blood investigations like CBC, inflammatory and infection marks ESR and CRP, urine analysis, urine culture, tumor markers, doing pelvic and abdominal ultrasound and endoscopy .

Causes of heartburn :

- GERD

- Hpylori infection

- certain foods and drinks like coffee, chocolate, spicy and fatty foods

- alcohol 

- smoking 

- being overweight 

- stress and anxiety 
- side effects of some drugs like Ibuprofen
