How is the diagnosis made?
- The diagnosis is made by taking the medical history, studying the symptoms that the patient suffers from, a clinical examination of the hand, is there pain or redness, is the other hand is swollen, is there fluid accumulation in the hand, and running some tests such as an ultrasound image to rule out any blockage in the blood flow, uric acid test to rule out gout, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, and rheumatoid factors to rule out rheumatism, a complete blood test to assess white blood cell count, and x-ray to rule out a fracture
