  • Human papillomavirus infection is a viral infection transmitted through sexual contact or contact through the skin and causes the appearance of blisters and skin warts on the mucous membranes in the genital area, there is more than one type of HPV infection and some of these types cause the emergence of Warts and pimples, some of which may lead to cancer, especially in the uterus,  cervix, penis, anus, and throat. Fortunately, there are some vaccinations that help protect against the strains of the virus that cause cancer. For genital warts, they can be alleviated by using some methods such as topical treatments that contain Salicylic acid, which works to gradually remove layers of warts, or burn warts using trichloroacetic acid, and local treatments that enhance the ability of the immune system to attack warts, such as Imiquimod cream are also options. Injecting warts with antigens stimulates the immune system to recognize warts as a foreign body and attack them, and it is one of the effective treatments that the patient begins to see the results After several sessions, the last options are laser surgery or surgical removal

Is there a definitive cure for the virus:


  • No, there is no treatment that completely eliminates the virus, but some of its symptoms can be treated, such as genital warts, but they may reappear again in the future.

How is the diagnosis made?


  • The diagnosis is made mainly by clinical examination of the areas of appearance of genital warts caused by the virus, and a Pap smear can be done to rule out cervical cancer and detect any changes in the uterus, DNA examination of cells from the cervix to identify the type of HPV present
