GERD treatment:
- Gastroesophageal reflux is a disorder that occurs when stomach acid flows up through the mouth of the stomach to reach the esophagus and causing irritation in the lining of the esophagus and damaging it in the long term. Tips such as quitting smoking or consuming alcohol, reducing drinking coffee, reducing the amount of food in the meal, dividing the daily food into 5-6 small meals instead of 3 main meals, avoiding lying down after a meal, avoiding fatty and oily foods, and eat slowly, as well. It is recommended to avoid some foods that increase reflux, such as mint, chocolate, garlic, and onions, reduce weight, especially the abdomen, do not wear clothes that compress the waist, and raise the head of the bed slightly when sleeping while using some medications such as Nexium 40mg once a day and Baclofen 10mg once a day
How is the diagnosis made?
- The diagnosis is made based on the medical history and clinical examination, and then some tests such as pH manometry, endoscopy of the esophagus and stomach, and x-rays using barium of the esophagus and stomach.
